With what is going on in this country, I can’t help but wonder how it will all end.
If you wanted to get rid of people and you were a billionaire or billionaires, what would be a better way than to stop scientists, stop medicine, stop research, stop staffing the agencies that do all that type of work for the American public. Is there a more effective way to kill a large swath of people everywhere? Obviously this is what the current administration is doing. On purpose. With gusto. With speed. With not a whit of caring about the citizens. Your average Joe Blow, your average Jane Doe. Would you consider the atomic bomb? Probably not because your environment would take a beating. Who would clean it up? Would they clean it up willingly after what you just did which was to drop a bomb on the homeland? So what better way than to hire incompetent people to kill as many people as possible without ruining the place.
Secondly, I wonder about the lawyers of this country. Why are they caught flat-footed by this assault on the rule of law? Wouldn’t it be right to think that if the rule of law is smashed to smithereens, the lawyers would have nothing to do? Reading today that large, prestigious firms were not accepting the cases of people who were illegally terminated, for instance, because the lawyers were afraid of retribution. Well, it seems to this nobody that it would be a moot point ultimately, wouldn’t it? If they, as lawyers, won’t stand up to the criminals, the criminals will feel free to run roughshod over the law. If they don’t disbar the lawyers that are ignoring their oaths, those lawyers will continue to break the law. And then when that happens, the judges will have nothing to do.
Regarding judges. The Roberts court has worked tirelessly to set all this up. Citizens United allowed Musk to buy Trump by opening the flood gates of dark money. Ye who spends the most, often wins. His court has re-instituted discrimination by tearing apart the Civil Rights Act of 1964. His court has made abortion illegal and taking women’s freedom of their own bodies away from them. This court has allowed religion to cross into government. They have hobbled unions. They have turned a blind eye to gerrymandering thereby giving the minority the advantage in the U.S. House. And the Roberts court help set the stage for the end of the rule of law. Ironic? Stupid? Self-serving? All of the above?
Now Roberts and his court are about to be placed in the same place the lawyers are placed. If they refuse to uphold the rule of law, the Constitution for fear of retribution, then the Republic will be gone. The rule of law will be ignored. The court won’t have any cases.
It helps to remember what happened on Jan. 6. The President tried to kill his Vice President. Do the Supreme’s think they are so special that couldn’t happen to them? It is a question that I have.
Another question is for the politicians. Do the Republicans in Congress see any benefits to ceding their power to the Executive Branch? Do they understand the drawbacks? The risks? Do they think somehow they will come out smelling like roses? Congress appropriates funds under law. If they don’t push back on the Executive Branch which is withholding funds illegally, they are toast. Maybe they figure they will be kept on as the new “Politbureau” so they can achieve their lifetime ambition of being what? A yes man, a rubber stamp, a ring kisser, a bought man/woman? Will their family be proud of them? Perhaps if they give it all up to keep the nice house, with the beautiful wife, they will be proud. But have they considered that they will be regarded a pariah by all the people that will lose their Medicaid, their Social Security, their clean air, their clean water, their chance at the American dream. Because that dream will dead.
Will it be ironic? Sad? Stupid? All of the above?
Will the billionaires be happy at long last? People dying, incomes plummeting, inflation soaring, indiscriminate killing by the state, diseases such as measles and polio flourishing? The flip side of that is that the way they made money will be drastically affected. No more money to spend on games? No more money to spend means no more products these guys produced. Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, Amazon’s bottom lines will shrink. More unemployment. Will there be a depression? How could there not be?
Another great Subsack from one of my two favorite Substackers.
My other favorite Substacker is Sabrina Haake, who, unlike you who is my real life friend is my online friend. We neber met but interact on her comments section. She's a lawyer and she wrote about Citizens United today here: "This fresh hell brought to you by Citizens United." Link:

I finished my own Substack which was just tidbits. That was before you posted this. Now I will add your Substack to my tidbits.

I find the current status of our Country to be disappointing, disgusting, dire, and dangerous!
